This week on the blog, I’m catching up with the absolute powerhouse that is Dominique Jones - the visionary behind Curve the Runway, Brisbane’s boldest celebration of size 14 and beyond.
As a plus-size model herself, Dom brings fierce authenticity and first hand insight into what makes Curve not just a runway, but a movement. Introduce yourself - who are you and what do you do?
Heya! I’m Dominique. I’m a mum, model, content creator, and the founder of Curve the Runway. I’ve spent over 20 years in the fashion industry and during that time, one thing I’ve always craved is a safe space. A safe and supportive space where models of all sizes, backgrounds, and abilities could show up and feel truly seen. That longing for representation, for community, and for real inclusion is what’s guided me every step of the way. And now, through Curve the Runway, I get to help create that space for so many others too.
What inspired you to create Curve The Runway?
The spark came from experiencing FAT Runway in Melbourne. That show completely blew me away. It was bold, diverse, and completely unapologetic. I remember thinking, this is what fashion should look like. Weeks after, still being fired up from the show, I knew I had to bring that same energy to Queensland. I wanted to create something that challenged the norms and placed representation at the centre. That’s how Curve the Runway was born.
Curve the Runway is grounded in representation, inclusion, and community. We believe fashion should celebrate every body. Every ethnicity, every ability, every identity. No one should ever feel like they have to shrink themselves to fit in. We value kindness, confidence, creativity, and most of all authenticity. Curve the Runway is a space where people can show up exactly as they are and be expected for it.
What sets Curve apart and makes it unique?
We aren’t just a fashion show. We are a movement. Representation isn’t added in. It’s the foundation.
From the models we cast to the designers we feature and the stories we tell, everything is done with purpose and heart. It’s empowering, electric, and full of soul. We hope that people walk away feeling seen, inspired, and like they’ve been part of something real.
What can guests expect for 2025?
2025 is going to be our biggest show yet and I’m so excited. Expect a runway filled with bold, curve celebrating fashion.
Models who bring confidence and personality.
Designers who truly know how to dress curvy bodies. There’ll be market stalls, music, and amazing vibes.
Most of all, there’ll be a deep sense of community. Whether it’s your first time attending a runway show or tenth, I know you’ll leave feeling inspired and part of something special.
